Our Class - 6
Welcome to Class 6
Teacher: Mrs Davenport
TA: Miss Smith
Final day... water balloon fight!!!
Look how brave all the children were taking part in all of these different activities!
We had a great time taking part in the RAF Space Challenge. We received instructions through livestreamed videos and then set about working in teams to make and test our rockets! Lots of future engineers in the making...
Spelling homework will be sent out every Monday and the children will be asked to return it by Friday. The spelling tests will take place on a Friday.
Spellings to learn for 16.7.21
Our topic for this term is 'Britain'. In history we will focus on the impact of WWII including: the development of the NHS, the welfare state and Empire Windrush. At the end of the unit, the children will answer the question 'Is Britain great?'. The geography aspect will focus on the local area of Torquay where we will study the impact of tourism.
Sewing our waistcoats! The children have done so well at mastering lots of new skills here!
Our final science topic for is 'Scientists and Inventors'. The children will get to learn about 7 different prominent scientists both modern and through history. They will get to carry out a variety of investigations and research focused on the work of each famous scientist!
Science lesson - The Circulatory System
After learning about the circulatory system, the children had to work in groups to design and make a board game. They could design any style of game they liked, but they had to include questions about the circulatory system for the players to answer! This was a great way for the children to apply and test out their own knowledge!
We will be starting this half term by looking at the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. The children will explore the way humour is expressed and will choose a group of objects to write about. They will explore personification and how this is key to the humour. The children will finish by publishing their own books.
In maths, we are finishing our topic on ratio and proportion and then moving onto perimeter, area and volume.
Maths lesson - Prime numbers
We were using manipulatives to investigate prime numbers. It is a really good way for the children to secure their understanding as it allows them to see a concrete representation of the maths they are doing. Plus, even Year 6 enjoy playing with counters and cubes!!!
Our fifth and final class novel is 'Cogheart' by Peter Bunzl. An action-packed novel from the steampunk fiction genre, the children will enjoy the adventure, a talking mechanical fox and a mystery which keeps you guessing until the end!
We have two PE lessons a week. These will normally be on a Monday and Tuesday, but this can be subject to change, so please ensure that PE kits are in school at all times.
